During my visit to India there were three weekends to visiting different sites.
Going from Bangalore to Mysore or Doddamakali required hiring a taxi. Both places were within an easy drive, 110 to 130 KM (70-80 miles) but because of the road system it took a minimum of 3 hours each way!
The plus was that we were going slow enough that I was able to take a few pictures.
Then going to Agra we had to fly to Delhi (1700 km,1060 miles) then drive 4 hours to Agra. We were able to drive faster but not like a highway here in the USA
